Have you ever felt like you needed to get over yourself? You ever look in the mirror and say to yourself: “Self, do you realize that it really isn’t that serious?” You ever feel like you need to expose yourself a little? Laugh at yourself a little? Be laughed at a little?

You ever wake up and want to stop concealing the insane oddball that resides under the controlled mask you wear everyday? You ever just want to divulge the real you and let the chips fall where they may...all in the name of recognizing, owning, and embracing your own ridiculousness…?

Nah, me neither, but I’m doing it anyway.

Musicals. Make My Day.

I love musicals. I especially love cheesy, way over the top, couldn't end happier musicals, and unlike most, I even enjoy them in movie format.

For those who know me casually, my adoration for high voltage, fairytale-esque sap, set to music may seem highly unlikely. My persona, in passing, is typically categorized as sarcastic and cynical, and I am amused most easily by dark comedy and dry wit. However, hiding deep beneath my surface is a nerdy, hopeful optimist, who desires nothing more than to see eternal happiness for all - and this is why I love musicals.

In the Land of Musicals, antics are set to rhythmic beats and sweet melodies, angst is met with chipper sound advice, bad guys eventually meet their demise, and good guys (after a bit of mellow-dramatic turbulence) come out on top. In the happy Land of Musicals, even the mundane is magical and most importantly - love (generally) conquers all.

Please note, the best clip I could find of my favorite scene is the following which has been dubbed over in Spanish. I apologize. Start 28 seconds in and skip to John Travolta as Edna coming out her shell. I LOVE THIS SCENE!!! From the start with the two finger eye motion to the end where she is shaking it good!!! Makes me happy every time - and yes I know I'm a weirdo! PS keep watching to see Queen Latifah kill as well.
