My sister is looking for an extra curricular activity for my 7 year old niece Madesyn. Now, while this may sound like an easy enough task, I dare say it is not. First of all, sports seem to be out of the question because, quite frankly, Mads has yet to master the art of coordination. Music seems like another likely alternative, however, I honestly believe the child may be tone deaf. I suggested computers, to which her mother dismissed on the grounds that the only thing Madesyn may lack more than coordination is an attention span. Cooking was contemplated, but then thoughts of the mischievous devil burning down the house while trying to prepare a "surprise" five course meal sans supervision, scared that thought right off the table.
I'm sure you're saying, stop being so analytical. HA!! We're dealing with one of the most manipulative creatures known to man - a childling!! Don't worry, all hope has not been lost. We are undaunted in our pursuit to find an engaging activity for the energetic, imaginative, and often times overly verbose seven year old darling (of course I'd like to see her write, but I'm not sure that my family is ready to read a tell-all account of our lives through the eyes of a seven year old...)
Tonight I will be researching children's improv classes; she is, how you say, quite a little actress after all (though, I have to ask, do we really want to improve her ability to lie?)
Anyway, I stumbled across this clip today and it re-energized my dedication to finding something my niece can be passionate about. Meet Daniel D. He plays a mean violin!! Maybe one day Madesyn could too!
Enigma Exposed - Oxymoron defined.
Have you ever felt like you needed to get over yourself? You ever look in the mirror and say to yourself: “Self, do you realize that it really isn’t that serious?” You ever feel like you need to expose yourself a little? Laugh at yourself a little? Be laughed at a little?
You ever wake up and want to stop concealing the insane oddball that resides under the controlled mask you wear everyday? You ever just want to divulge the real you and let the chips fall where they may...all in the name of recognizing, owning, and embracing your own ridiculousness…?
Nah, me neither, but I’m doing it anyway.
